Getting Started

If you have come this far, I am assuming that you are interested in providing some type of training or education to your employees or some other critical group of people…

I have put together a number of resources to provide you with a an overview of what eLearning is today…

First

My definition of eLearning is: “Learning Via Any Electronic Means”

Notice that I did not qualify my definition with the phrase “On Line” because eLearning can be delivered either via the internet or through other methods such as via your internal network, CD or DVD just to name a few.

Second

eLearning is usually “self paced” meaning it is produced at some point in the past and can then be consumed:

  • Where – Plane, Train or in some cases an Automobile
  • When – Morning, Noon or Night
  • On the device of your choosing… that best suits the learner and your organization.
Devices include:
  • A PC or Mac
  • An  iPad or Android tablet
  • An iPod or other smart phone
Delivery Systems include:
  • The internet
  • Your network
  • Intranet
  • Extranet
  • A USB thumb drive
  • A DVD or CD
Bandwidth constraints are not a problem…

No matter what the bandwidth, whether it’s:

  • Dial up
  • Cellular
  • Wifi
  • Broadband or
  • Your network, eLearning can be delivered and consumed without concern.

Design tools now exist that can provide content to meet you learning objectives, without noticeable lag or interruption.

 What Makes eLearning Different?

A properly designed eLearning application starts before anything else with “Learning Objectives” clearly defined. What must be learned in detail and in what sequence?
